Chelsea Player Ratings

Reece James and the rest of the Chelsea defence were overpowered by a rampant Bayern Munich

Willy Caballero - /10

The Chelsea goalkeeper had an awful start to the game, as his tackle on Lewandowski gave Bayern a penalty and put them on their way. He couldn't have done much with any of the other three Barcelona goals.

Reece James - 6/10

It was a fascinating battle between James and Davies on the flank. James defended the Candian's threat well enough, but it looked like he was wary of what Davies could do, if given space. Hence, he didn't really venture forward too much.

Andreas Christensen - 4/10

Christensen was given a right runaround by Lewandowski on the night, as the Pole dragged the Chelsea defender across the width of the field.

Kurt Zouma - 4/10

He should have done better in defending both the third and fourth Bayern goals, as he didn't even jump to try and head those crosses away.

Emerson - 5/10

His desire and adventure bought the mistake from Neuer for Chelsea's only goal in the tie, but his lack of defensive awareness hurt his team on multiple occasions.

N'Golo Kante - 4/10

Kante was overpowered in midfield by Thiago Alcantara. After half-time, he played a lot better as he switched from being the lone defensive midfield, to the right side of the three in the centre of the park.

Mateo Kovacic - 4/10

His awful mistake led to Lewandowski setting up Perisic for Bayern's second. Even otherwise, there was very little of note from Kovacic on the night.

Ross Barkley - 2/10

Honestly, was he even playing? His role, along with Mount, was to ensure that Chelsea were creating enough chances, but he was overpowered by Goretzka and Thiago.

Callum Hudson Odoi - 5/10

The young Englishman had a big moment taken away from him, as Abraham had strayed offside, just before he passed a shot beyond Neuer. He didn't really influence the play too much overall, though.

Mason Mount - 4/10

Starting in the Chelsea front three, Mount was another, like Barkley, who really struggled to get into the game. he had a brief period at the start of the second half, when he was making threatening runs behind the Bayern defence, but that was snuffed out pretty easily.

Tammy Abraham - 5/10

Abraham got as simple a goal as you'll see. But he was simply outsmarted on multiple occasions by Alaba and Boateng, who kept stepping up at the right time, to catch the Englishman offside.

Substitutes

Olivier Giroud - 5/10

He barely touched the ball as he replaced Abraham, for the last ten minutes.
