Berlin – With a 3-0 win over Augsburg, Bayern Munich received the Bundesliga trophy after two years of absence to celebrate at the soldout Allianz Arena.
Following the final whistle Saturday, Bundesliga president Reinhard Rauball handed over the championship shield to Bayern captain Phillip Lahm to initiate the celebrations in Munich with confetti and beer, reports Xinhua.
After the obligatory wheat beer showers on the pitch, Bayern players and officials moved on with a motorcade to Munich’s town hall to party with approximately 24,000 fans from the balcony at the Marienplatz.
Munich’s mayor Christian Ude awaited the Bayern squad with cheers at the town hall to congratulate them for their 23rd title in 50 years of Bundesliga. All Bayern players and officials appeared one after another on the balcony of the town hall to take a bath in the sea of Bayern flags and supporters with the Bundesliga championship shield.
The supporters and all Bayern players and officials celebrated their title striking up fan chants. Bayern captain Phillip Lahm took the word from the balcony: “It is unbelievable. Thank you very much for the support despite the two years of title droughts.”
Also Jupp Heynckes addressed the supporters on the Marienplatz: “The team broke one record after another, we can be proud of it. I can guarantee you that we will do our utmost to win the Champions League.”
