Bayern Munich legend and current club chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has give current Bayern coach Pep Guardiola his full backing.
The ex-German international, who was one of the heroes of the West German team that lifted the 1990 World Cup, has gone as far as saying that the current Bundesliga champions will “never fire” the Spaniard.
The ex-Barcelona manager is all set to embark on his second season at the Allianz Arena after having won the domestic double last year his first season at Bayern.
However, the Bavarians missed out on the big prize i.e. The Champions League. Guardiola’s men were ousted from the competition in the semi-final stage by Real Madrid.
Despite that, he former Barcelona manager still sounded cautious when talking about his future at the club recently. He had recently been quoted as saying that he won’t be surprised if he gets the sack from Bayern on failing to keep up his winning ways with the club.
However, Rummenigge’s recent words now will surely serve as a shot in the arm for the Spaniard.
German media outlet Sunday’s Welt am Sonntag had pointed out to Rummenigge in a recent discussion that Bayern in recent times had in fact sacked coaches after disappointing seasons following the past two World Cups and asked whether this trend would follow if the Bavarians end up having a disappointing season next year.
Responding to the questions of and the fact stated, Rummenigge replied: "Bayern are never going to sack Pep Guardiola. I can even put that in writing for you."
"We have two perfect years behind us, won eight titles and some of our players have even put the cherry on top with the World Cup," he added.
"And now we will continue setting records by being better than we've ever been after a World Cup."
