Bayern Munich chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has come out in support of ex-Bavarian Bastian Schweinsteiger by offering him a non-playing role at Bayern Munich, since reports have emerged that he has been told by Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho that he is free to leave the club.
It appears the Chairman is convinced by what could be a seemingly good judgement of his compatriot. Soon after his earlier press release, Rummenigge quickly divulged that the club are ready to offer the ex-Germany international an opportunity to return in a non-playing capacity anytime he wishes to advance his career in a different role.
"We are happy to sit down with him if he ever expresses a desire to return to Bayern in a different role," Rummenigge said.
Earlier Chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told German newspaper TZ that he believes Schweinsteiger will prove himself to the manager, “I can see him stay at Manchester United and try to achieve their goals under a new coach. Maybe he could surprise Mourinho. Either way, Bastian has had an amazing career. Nothing can change that.”
Schweinsteiger is destined to work at Bayern again: Lahm
Philipp Lahm also joined Rummenigge in his support to the German stalwart’s career by stating that he would be ideal for a non-playing role back at Bayern Munich. Lahm feels Schweinsteiger is such a big personality at the Allianz Arena that it seems he wants him to replicate Zinedine Zidane’s success at Real Madrid.
"He knows everyone here and knows about everything that is going on. It is important to get players who achieved a lot involved," Lahm told Sport Bild.
"Someone like Schweinsteiger is destined to work at Bayern again,” Lahm added further.
Manchester United fans demand Jose Mourinho to keep Bastian Schweinsteiger
While there is no confirmation of any decision from Bastian Schweinsteiger about his future, Manchester United fans have lambasted their manager on the comments sections of his Instagram page. While some have urged him to keep Schweinsteiger at Old Trafford, one of the fans called Jose Mourinho “an idiot” for deciding to axe him.
A hashtag called #saveschweinsteiger is thus trending on the social media.
Jose Mourinho claims Schweinsteiger does not fit in his plans for the club’s revival and feels he is an unnecessary addition to the squad. Moreover, The Daily Mail suggests the manager has forced the veteran to train with the reserves and also shift to their dressing room.
