FC Bayern Munich hope to add the German Cup title to their German Bundesliga and UEFA Champions League titles to complete their first-ever treble of titles. But the result is not a forgone conclusion as VfB Stuttgart will want to spoil the party at the Berlin Olympic Stadium.Bayern Munich could tomorrow become only the seventh European club to win – European Cup, domestic league and cup title after Celtic Glasgow in 1967, Ajax Amsterdam in 1972, PSV Eindhoven in 1988, Manchester United in 1999, Barcelona in 2009 and Inter Milan in 2010.
Earlier in the week Bastian Schweinsteiger had said, “The team is very eager to win the cup. Of course, it was something special to win at Wembley, but the concentration on Berlin is raising day by day.”
Bayern Munich are forced to be without dependable defender Dante, who along with midfielder Luiz Gustavo has been called to Brazil for the preparations for the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup. Dante’s place will be taken by Belgian Daniel van Buyten while the team also misses long time injured Holger Badstuber and Toni Kroos.
The Bayern team want to give a fitting farewell to their 68-year-old coach Jupp Heynckes for whom this will be the last time he will sit on the bench in an official match as a Bayern Munich coach.
Stuttgart on the side know that they have a tough task ahead of them. Coach Bruno Labbadia has repeated said that his team needs an exceptional day, while Bayern Munich a bad one for them to ratch up an upset.
Kick-off at the Berlin Olympic Stadium is at 20.00 CET.
