Bayern Munich may have picked up their first trophy of the season by winning the UEFA Super Cup, but the victory has proved costly for the German powerhouse as they will not be able to avail the services of three key players in the next few matches.
Bayern trio Arjen Robben, Javi Martinez and Mario Goetze will be missing training next week due to injuries, with Goetze out for three weeks, ESPN FC reports.
Spanish midfielder Javi Martinez, who scored Bayern’s last-moment equaliser, stretched a knee ligament and will miss out team training for the next five days.
Club doctor Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfahrt also ordered a three-day rest for Arjen Robben, who was substituted with a swollen knee six minutes into extra time.
Mario Goetze, who has just returned from a three month absence, suffered the biggest setback and is set to miss another three weeks of action. He twisted his ankle in the challenge with Ramires which saw the latter sent off after receiving two yellow cards.
The German would be in plaster for a week, needing a further 14 days of rehabilitation before returning to team training. He would also miss World Cup qualifier matches for Germany against Austria Faroes.
