Midfielders Bastian Schweinsteiger and Franck Ribery will miss Bayern Munich’s clash against Porto in the Champions League quarter-finals first leg at the Estádio do Dragão. The German outfit’s injury problems have started to pile up. The duo join Mehdi Benatia, Arjen Robben, Javi Martinez and David Alaba on Bayern’s injury list.
While Frenchman Ribery has been struggling with an ankle injury for the past five weeks, Schweinsteiger will not feature due to illness. Bayern Munich sporting director Mattias Sammer called the injury to their players “bitter” but reiterated that “Those who are with us have our full trust. The team is hungry.”
The injuries are untimely for Bayern as they chase a treble of the Champions League, the Bundesliga which they lead by 10 points and the German Cup where they have reached the semi-finals.
