Franck Ribery said that he had the chance to join a Chinese Super League team but did not take it because he wanted to win more silverware with Bayern Munich. The Frenchman has missed a lot of game time this season due to injury, and even after his return he has found first-team opportunities hard to come by due to the emergence of Douglas Costa and Kingsley Coman.
But that hasn’t diminished his desire and love for the club and he wants to continue playing in Germany. Speaking to Geman newspaper Bild he said, “Money is not the most important thing for me, If I wanted more money, I should have left for China. I had an offer. But I am not interested.”
The veteran has expressed his love for the atmosphere in the club as well as their fans saying, “I want to have fun with the fans here, and win more titles at Bayern. That's my club”.
Ribery is not getting any younger but hasn’t lost his appetite for the game or winning for that matter. “I am still hungry for more titles. I've been here for nearly nine years, and will turn 33 in April, there is not a lot of time left. Maybe two or three years.”
The forward has been in talks with his superiors at the club about an extension to his current contract. “I've already talked a bit with [former president] Uli Hoeness and [CEO] Karl-Heinz Rummenigge about a new contract.”
Ribery seems to have settled well in the city along with his family saying, “I would like to stay for one or two more years. I am happy, and enjoy living in Munich. It's nice for my kids and my wife.I have everything here. The people love me. Ribery and Bayern just belong together. That's very special and emotional. It is just nice.”
Bayern still in command in the title race
After two games without a win in the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich got back to their rampant best as they thrashed Werder Bremen 5-0 on Saturday. Dortmund had a chance to close the gap to two points last week when they hosted the Bavarian club
But the two teams played out a 0-0 draw thus resulting in no change in the points gap. Thomas Muller and Thiago Alcantara both bagged a brace as Robert Lewandowski also got on the scoresheet coming on as a substitute late in the game.
