Bayern Munich hammered five goals past fourth division club Rehden to progress into the second round of the DFB Pokal.
Thomas Muller was the star for Bavarians with a hat-trick. Bayern took the lead through Xherdan Shaqiri, with Arjen Robben rounding off the goalscoring spree.
Rehden tried their best to put the pressure with aggressive intent, but the hosts took the lead with Shaqiri getting the slightest of deflection to Robben’s shot to break the deadlock in the 18th minute.
Rehdan had their chance when Alexander Neumann went close to levelling before Muller headed in a cross from Rafinha to make it two in favour of Pep Guardiola’s men at half-time.
In the second half, Muller was fouled inside the penalty area resulting in a penalty, which Muller calmly slotted in to make it three. The German international then completed his hat-trick with a precise header from Robben’s corner.
The tie was over, but Danny Arend had the chance to claim some personal glory. Unfortunately for Rehdan though, he fired the shot wide of the Neuer’s post with only keeper to beat in the 74th minute of an otherwise one-sided match.
Robben then got the much deserved goal he had been seeking all night to complete the rout.
Meanwhile, Schalke crawled to a 2-0 win at Nottingen with Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Leon Goretzka scoring for the Royal Blues.
