Berlin, Jan 30 (IANS) Thiago Alcantara‘s brilliant finish ensured Bayern Munich’s 2-1 comeback victory at Stuttgart in a German Bundesliga match.
The Bundesliga front-runners and German record champions Bayern Munich took a 13-point lead in the standings as Stuttgart squandered a 1-0 lead owing to two-second-half-goals Wednesday, reports Xinhua.
Bayern controlled the ball but were unable establish their rhythm and to work out threatening opportunities while the hosts created a bunch of goal scoring chances in the opening period.
However, things started different than expected, as Bayern seemed to lose grip of their 42nd unbeaten streak when Stuttgart’s Vedad Ibisevic flabbergasted the visitors with the opener at the 29th minute. The Bosnian striker utilised Mohammed Abdellaoue’s layoff to beat Manuel Neuer in Bayern goal.
Things changed in the second half when Pep Guardiola fielded Mario Mandzukic and Claudio Piazzaro.
Guardiola was rewarded when Pizzaro headed home a free kick by Thiago Alcantara inside the box in the 76th minute.
Stuttgart nearly responded with their next attack but Bayern defender Dante cleared Timo Werner’s attempt near the goal line.
Nonetheless, the Bavarians piled on the pressure, as they were not done with the scoring. An acrobatic sideways scissor-kick by Alcantara secured Bayern Munich a last-gasp win on the road.
