German treble winners FC Bayern Munich have decided to play a charity match to raise funds for the flood victims following the devastating flood catastrophe which has hit Bavaria in recent days.
Bavarian minister president Horst Seehofer and FC Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge have personally held talks and arranged a fund-raising benefit match to aid victims of the flood disaster.
“Our team has benefited from so much support from the people of Bavaria over recent weeks and months,” stated Rummenigge. “In the light of the dramatic images from the flooded areas, we now wish to give something back and contest a benefit match with our team to aid victims of the flood disaster.”
FC Bayern will contest a match against a Regional XI in Passau, for which no fee will be charged by the club. All revenue raised from the match will be donated to victims in the flood hit areas.
Bavarian minister president Horst Seehofer expressed his gratitude to the club for the gesture of solidarity. “It is very special when the world’s leading football club sends out such a strong signal of solidarity. I would like to thank the management of FC Bayern and the team for this magnificent gesture.”
Also recognising FC Bayern’s major achievement in winning the Bundesliga title, the DFB Pokal and the UEFA Champions League, the Bavarian minister president announced a state government reception for the club.
Victims of the flood disaster and emergency helpers will also be invited to this special event.
