Jerome Boateng has been at the centre of a social media storm around Messi beating him spectacularly for Barcelona’s second goal. Speaking after the game, he voiced his frustration on his team’s performance.
“We played well for 70 minutes. You didn't have the feeling it might go wrong at the back but then we've made a mistake," Boateng told Bayern's official website.
The score was 0-0 till the 77th minute when Lionel Messi opened the scoring for Barcelona. It was all downhill from there as Messi weaved his magic again three minutes later to afflict further misery on the German champions.
Neymar’s goal in the 90th minute made the Bavarians’ second leg task all the more difficult.
The Bayern Munich defender added, “Obviously I'm angry that we folded after that and threw the game away.
“We need team unity now. Our target must be to win in Munich.”
Bayern had to come back from a 3-1 deficit in the quarter-final stage against Porto and they were up to the task as they beat the Portuguese club 6-1 at home to qualify for the semi-finals. However, this time around, they do not have the away goal to their advantage and they face an opponent that seems tougher to beat.
The German club were without Arjen Robben, Franck Ribery and David Alaba at the Nou Camp, they will hope to have at least one of them back for the return leg.
