Munich, Nov 27 (IANS) Reigning champions Bayern Munich returned to winning ways after beating Bayer Leverkusen 2-1 while Eintracht Frankfurt edged Borussia Dortmund 2-1 in the 12th round of Bundesliga football league.

Bayern snapped their two-game losing streak in all competitions as the German champions overpowered resilient Bayer Leverkusen thanks to a winning goal from defender from Mats Hummels on Saturday, reports Xinhua.

From the start both sides attacked. Bayern defender Thiago Alcantara opened the scoring with header from close range in the half-hour mark.

Leverkusen replied five minutes later when Hakan Calhanoglu scored with a superb long range effort.

Both sides continued the fast-paced encounter in the second half. Bayern grabbed the lead again as Mats Hummels nodded home a corner in the 56th minute.

With their eighth victory of the season, Bayern reduced the gap to front-runners Leipzig to three points. Meanwhile, Bayer Leverkusen remain on the ninth place of the standings.

Frankfurt extended their unbeaten run to six games as Szabolcs Huszti and Haris Seferovic provided the goals to down Dortmund, who suffered their third loss of the season.

Dortmund's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored for his team.

With the result, Dortmund slumped from the third to the sixth place whereas Frankfurt jumped from the seventh to the third place.

Elsewhere, Borussia Monchengladbach extended their winless run to seven games after drawing 1-1 with Hoffenheim.

Cologne remained unbeaten in three matches as they played out a goalless stalemate with Augsburg.

Werder Bremen levelled the scores twice to snatch a 2-2 draw with last-placed Hamburg while Ingolstadt's wastefulness allowed Wolfsburg to secure a 1-1 draw.
