My Facebook home page which is subscribed to Manchester United’s fan page had posted probably one of the most sarcastic statuses ever. It was on Bebe which said that they hope to wish the striker soon back at Old Trafford. Yes surprisingly which is Bebe’s speciality, his loan move to Turkish club Besiktas is considered his first step to move out of the Premier League Champions. The Portuguese U-21 player’s loan contract says that the Besiktas can make the deal permanent with a £2 million deal.
Bebe who surprised everyone even for that matter United’s executive David Gill had a transfer for £7 million Portuguese club, Vitoria S.C. to United and Sir Alex had seen just a video of the player!!! And one more thing, he didn’t play a game for the Vitoria. Yes that is true. He played the 2009-10 seasons for Portuguese second division side C.F. Estrela da Amadora and played 26 games with 4 goals and was snapped up by Vitoria when Amadora were unable to pay his wages.
For Manchester United Bebe made 7 appearances overall in which he scored 2 goals one against Turkish side Bursas or and a League Cup goal against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Apparently what caught United’s eye on Bebe was his speed. Initial reports from training were not positive, but Ferguson continued to swat away any intimation he might have erred, railing against “vicious attacks” from the media.
“Ability-wise he’s really good, a terrific finisher and we’ve been very impressed with that.
“It’s just the right fitness levels he needs to get to.“
But sadly he has really become a matter of joke in the media. When Bolt visited United he said that when he retires from Athletics he wants to play professional football and he is good enough to play for Manchester United. To this the press said that he surely will be Bebe. But there is also the positive side to this story. That is Bebe’s seriousness to repay Sir Alex’s faith. Bebe said
“I want to prove that [Sir Alex] Ferguson was not wrong by hiring me.
“He relied heavily on me, but unfortunately I could not show my value and I want to do this in Besiktas.”
And this can be done from a boy who was abandoned by his father. Yes Bebe is still the kid from the shelter who went on to become a professional footballer. He was a boy lost in the drug-addled streets of Lisbon’s impoverished outskirts; a life as a journeyman pro, at one of Turkey’s biggest clubs, could turn out to be a considerable success. Bebe is sure of his happy ending. And as an optimistic I wish it turns out to be a fairytale.
