LONDON (AFP) –
David Beckham says he has not yet relinquished hope of resurrecting his England career, despite having not played for his country for almost three and a half years.
The 37-year-old returned to European football with Paris Saint-Germain in January and hopes to feature in the Ligue 1 leaders’ Champions League clash with Barcelona on Tuesday.
Beckham’s contract is due to expire at the end of the season but with PSG having expressed a desire to extend his deal, the former England captain says he still dreams of a return to the national set-up.
“One of the reasons why I’ve never retired from the England team is because if there’s ever an opportunity to play for them again, then I’m available,” Beckham told CNN World Sport.
“If there is any chance of me ever playing for my country again, I would never turn that down. Like I said, I’m almost 38 years old so the chances are very slight, but you never know.”
Beckham has won 115 England caps, a record for an outfield player, but has not featured for his country since October 2009.
