In the first part we saw some of the players who may lead Belgium to future glory. Here in this part the list continues and I am sure that Belgium will be a force to be reckoned with in the future.
JAN VERTONGHEN (AJAX)
AGE: 24
POSITIION: CB
INTERNATIONAL CAPS: 34
INTERNATIONAL GOALS: 2
MARKET VALUE: 10.5m£
I think the stats are very clear. He is just 24 and has played a game more than Vermaelen for Belgium. Vermaelen was once his team mate at Ajax, and they know each other really well. Arsenal are rumoured to be interested in him and if he does join Arsenal, it will be a reunion with Vermaelan. Arsenal are not the only team that are interested in him. There has been a lot of rumours and speculation regarding his transfer. But for now he is happy at Ajax. He is a first class CB and in two 3-4 years time he will be 27-28, a ripe age for a CB to shine. There is no doubt that he will become an important asset for Belgium.
VINCENT KOMPANY (MAN CITY)
AGE: 26
POSITIION: CB
INTERNATIONAL CAPS: 42
INTERNATIONAL GOALS: 1
MARKET VALUE: 30m £
Like Vermaelen he is also 26 but there is no doubt that he will be an integral part of Belgium on their way to glory for the next 5-6 years. He is the captain of Man City and Belgium and what more can you expect from him. He is currently one of the dominant CBs in the EPL and he is in lethal form. Man city has lost very few games with him at the heart of their defence this season and he has been an integral part of Man City’s title run-in. There is no doubt that Kompany, who started his playing career at Anderlecht, will be a great asset for Belgium in WC 2014 and Euro 2016, provided they qualify for them.
AXEL WITSEL (BENFICA)
AGE: 23
POSITIION: CM, CAM, RM
INTERNATIONAL CAPS: 22
INTERNATIONAL GOALS: 5
MARKET VALUE: 12.5m£
Witsel is one of the very few good prospects from Belgium. He is just 23 and already he is a pillar at the centre of midfield for Belgium. He has represented Belgium in all possible age groups and has been called up for Belgium 22 times. There is a lot of speculation regarding his transfer next season with Chelsea, Man Utd and Man city interested in him. He will be put to good use at the Man Utd camp as they are desperate in finding a CM. There is no doubt that he is going to build a reputation as a strong centre midfielder as he is a potential star for the future for any team that he plays in. In three-four years time, he will be a key player for Belgium’s rise as a footballing nation.
ROMELU LUKAKU (CHELSEA)
AGE: 18
POSITIION: ST, CF
INTERNATIONAL CAPS: 12
INTERNATIONAL GOALS: 2
MARKET VALUE: 13m£
At just 18 years of age, he has played 12 times for Belgium, scoring two goals in the process. He is a perfect player with a perfect physique and is a huge prospect for both his club and country. He can learn a lot at Chelsea under the guidance of Torres, Drogba and Lampard. There is no doubt that he will be an important player for Belgium in the next 10 years.
STEVEN DEFOUR (FC PORTO)
AGE: 24
POSITIION: CM
INTERNATIONAL CAPS: 30
INTERNATIONAL GOALS: 1
MARKET VALUE: 10m£
He is shockingly under rated and he has been an integral part of Porto this year. Though he has been inconsistent, he is still a class player. He will be a part of Belgium national team at least for five-six years down the line.
This is just a shortlist of many talents that Belgium possess. There are a lot of honourable mentions like Thorgan Hazard (18), Dedryk Boyata( 21), Thibaut Courtois (19), Kevin de Bruyne (20), and a lot of other players.
