After part 1, let’s have a look at a few more logos in part 2 of this instalment.
1. Vasco Da Gama: The Rio-based club founded by Portuguese immigrants and named after Portuguese explorer Vasco Da Gama, has a rather unique logo of a typical middle-ages ship with a cross pattee on the ship’s sail. They play in black shirts with a diagonal white sash and the same colour scheme is portrayed in the background of the logo’s ship, giving it a nice look.
2. FC Santa Claus: You might as well think – Does a club like this even exist or this a pile of baloney the author cooked up? And I wouldn’t blame you. I myself came to know of its existence only a few days earlier. They play in the 3rd tier of Finnish football and were founded only in 1993. Though they have the logo of a rather jolly Santa, it seems he hasn’t been granting the club’s wishes as they have been never been promoted to even the 2nd tier of Finnish football ever since the club’s inception.
3. Clermont Foot: Clermont Foot Auvergne 63, commonly abbreviated as Clermont Foot, are a second division French outfit having have never played in Ligue 1. With a crest of a bandit riding a horse jumping over nothing in particular with a sword held high in triumph, it is unique in its own way. Classy.
4. Pezoporikos Larnaca: This Cypriot club had the logo of a camel. Weird or what? And it’s not as if the colors in the background are great either. But the fact that a camel is on a crest is somewhat interesting. But sadly, the club was dissolved in 1994.
5. San Antonio Scorpions: Founded only in 2010, they play in the North American Soccer League. The golden scorpion with a football between its claws and the stinger forming a star between the words ‘San’ and ‘Antonio’ makes a lethal combination. Deadly!
6. Antigua Barracudas FC: I’ve hated barracudas ever since I was a kid. Why? One killed Nemo’s mom for goodness sake! The Antigua-based professional club plays in the USL Professional Division, the 3rd tier of American football. With a light blue barracuda having a football in its mouth giving a look both reproachful and threatening at the same time, it makes for a great logo.
7. Lyngby Boldklub: This particular logo reminds one of the LOTR series. Of the massive statues of kings of the human race. With only the colors of blue and white on the logo, it emits a glow of majesty. Magnificent!
8. Jaguares de Chiapas: The team from the state of Chiapas has a jaguar on its crest. And a dangerous looking one. The Mayans considered the jaguar as a spiritual figure and worshipped it and the Mexican club has continued the trend by drawing it on their crest. Sleek.
9. Oldham Athletic: Another club to shed its old logo and go for a new one, it didn’t disappoint. Continuing with their preferred mascot – an owl, the new logo looks better than the older one by a mile. And the best features are the eyes, which seem to be looking straight at you.
10. Llanfairpwll FC: Already hard to pronounce, isn’t it? Well, that wasn’t even half of the Welsh club’s real name. It’s real name is ‘Clwb Pel Droed Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch’! Phew, that was quite a mouthful. Now let’s get back to the point. What I really liked was that despite having a mammoth name, the club managed to mention their whole name by writing it all over its boundary. And the colours of black, blue and yellow go on well with the castle in the background. The club plays in the Welsh Alliance League.
