Champions League runners-up Borussia Dortmund have made a €23m offer for want away midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan. The player has attracted interest from top clubs across Europe after impressing in the Champions League and finishing the season as the top goalscorer in the Ukranian league with 25 goals.
Shakhtar Donetsk CEO Sergei Palkin confirmed the bid from the German side but insists that it falls short of their valuation. The Armenian has not turned up for Shakhtar’s pre-season training and Palkin claims they know nothing about his wheareabouts.
“Borussia offered €23m (£19.5m) for the midfielder. I contacted Mkhitaryan’s agent yesterday. I wrote to him about the official position of the club.”
“I don’t know where Mkhitaryan is, now; solely his agent knows this,” Palkin said.
The Ukranian outfit completed the signing of Brazilian Fred from SC International for €15m earlier this week, suggesting that the club are willing to cash in on their star man.
“We are prepared to sell Mkhitaryan for €30m (£25m), this offer stands for the next 10 days. If Mkhitaryan wishes to leave, they have to pay this amount for him.
“€30m, one installment. If there is a club that can pay that amount, we are ready to make a deal”
After completing four transfers for a figure close to £25m, it is highly unlikely that Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers will shell out another £25m on a single player unless Luis Suarez leaves.
