Borussia Dortmund midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan has revealed he is open to a move to the Premier League with Liverpool in the future, despite having snubbed the Merseysiders during the summer.
The 25-year-old Armenian was one of Brendan Rodgers’ primary transfer targets but opted to sign for the Bundesliga outfit in a £24.4m deal and declared, “Liverpool have a great past, but Borussia Dortmund has a great present.”
Dortmund had just lost the Champions League final while Liverpool slumped to a seventh place finish the Premier League, but the Reds’ fine performances during the current campaign appear to have caught Mkhitaryan’s eye.
Although he has insisted that he is happy with Jurgen Klopp’s side, he hinted that a move to Anfield in the future would still interest him, reports the Daily Star.
“Of course I know how much Liverpool wanted me, but what happened, happened.
“I’m now in Dortmund and very happy and proud about it.
“Can I see myself at Liverpool in the future? You know that it doesn’t depend entirely on me. But this is life and everything is possible,” Mkhitaryan declared.
Rodgers is expected to be given a sizeable transfer budget if Liverpool secure a top four finish and he could yet return for Mkhitaryan, who has produced a string of impressive performances in Germany.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan has scored six goals and provided seven assists in 21 appearances for Borussia Dortmund this season.
