Borussia Dortmund recorded a resounding 3-0 victory over visitors Bayer Leverkusen at the Signal Iduna Park to sustain their incredible start to the new Bundesliga season.
Goals from Jonas Hofmann, Shinji Kagawa and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang wrapped up a convincing win for manager Thomas Tuchel’s side who now have won all of their five games and are likely to challenge Bayern Munich for the title.
A team that oozed confidence and have rejuvenated this season, Dortmund got the Westfalenstadion crowd going in the 19th minute as Hofmann got on to meet Kagawa's ball over the top that evaded Leverkusen keeper Leno and nipped in behind him to fire his side into the lead.
The scoreline stayed at 1-0 until half time as Tuchel’s side displayed some impressive possession football which has been a striking feature of their game in the new campaign.
Kagawa, who provided the first goal, got his name on the scoresheet in the second half finishing a slick passing move from Mkhitaryan's flick and cooly slotting it into the net to grab his second league goal of the season.
Leverkusen’s woes increased after Dortmund’s Aubameyang made it 3-0 from the penalty spot. Defender Wendell brought down Matthias Ginter in the box and the Gabon international made no mistake in converting it from 12 yards out.
With this win, Dortmund have extended their winning streak to 11 games in all competitions while Leverkusen have had a dismal start to their new season as this was their third consecutive defeat in the Bundesliga.
