Borussia Mönchengladbach sign Yann Sommer to replace Barcelona bound Ter Stegen

Yann Sommer will replace Ter Stegen who is Barcelona bound at the end of the season

Borussia Mönchengladbach have today announced that they have reached an agreement to sign FC Basel goalkeeper Yann Sommer.as a replacement for Ter Stegen who is reportedly on his way to FC Barcelona.

Mönchengladbach have also confirmed that Stegen has informed them that he will be leaving the for sure at the end of the season.

They have also confirmed that the agreement with Stegen’s next club has been finalized. Despite rumours of interest from Bayern Munich and Manchester City, Ter Stegen is said to have chosen Barcelona as his next club. Victor Valdes, the current Barca keeper, is set to leave when his contract expires this summer.

“After Marc-André ter Stegen has informed us that he definitely wants to leave at end of season, we have now reached an agreement with his new club on the transfer arrangements. He will move abroad, that’s for now. His successor in goal for Borussia will be Yann Sommer. He is an excellent goalkeeper who has already gained a lot of international experience with its 25 years and we are delighted that he has chosen for us.” said Borussia Mönchengladbach sporting director, Max Eberl.

Yann Sommer is a 25yr old who played in the youth teams of his local side FC Herrliberg and later by Concordia Basel before signing for FC Basel’s youth team.

He has represented the club in all levels of the game. He is of Swiss orgin and has managed to make 5 apps for the Switzerland senior side.
