The Brazilian FA has decided not to renew head coach Luiz Felipe Scolari’s contract thus ending his tenure as the head coach of the Brazillian national football team.
Scolari had come under heavy scrutiny following Brazil’s poor show at the final stages of the World Cup, having lost twice in five days.
According to the Daily Mail, Scolari had earlier discussed about his future with the Brazilian Football Confederation officials on Saturday after their 3-0 defeat to Netherlands, and that the decision could have been taken mutually.
However, Scolari had previously insisted that he wouldn’t quit, and it was the President’s decision to take.
“It is up to the president to decide. We will hand in a final report and then leave it to him to analyse what needs to be done,” Scolari said after Brazil’s defeat to the Netherlands “I’m not going to discuss [my future] with you. Winning or losing that is what we would have done.”
His contract with Brazil was due to be renewed following the end of the tournament, however, the board has now decided that it would be wise to release him from his duties effective immediately.
His termination also sees the departure of several staff members including assistant managers Carlos Parreira and Flávio Murtosa whose contracts have expired as well.
