Brazilian Edmilson Marques late goal silenced Lajong fans

A 1-1 draw at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium.

A must win game for the home team and the match started with the north easterners dominating possession, playing with a 4-4-2 formation. Daniel Bedemi started with Anil Gurung in place of the speedster Seikhohao Tuboi. In the first 5 minutes Lajong striker Anil Gurung took a shot and hit the side netting, Lajong was playing their natural passing game and keeping the ball while the Kolkata boys just couldn’t keep the ball and were seen giving away cheap passes.

Chirag was playing without their defender Eduardo Coelho and skipper Denson Devadas who was suspended, Lajong took the advantage and kept causing problems to the Chirag backline but Lajong failed to capitalize their chances.

Lajong was rewarded for their hard work when a miss communication between the defender and the goal keeper. Lajong striker Daniel Bedemi took the ball pass the goal keeper who failed to come forward and slid the ball in the goalpost. After the goal Lajong took to a more offensive mode and in just about a minute Anil Gurug took a shot but was saved by the Chirag keeper.

Chirag had a few half chances but the Lajong central defenders were at the best and made good calculated tackles, just before the half time whistle we saw the first yellow card to Daniel Bedemi , because of which he will be missing the next match against Viva Kerala.

Second half started with the away side getting more possession of the ball and the home team started playing from the back and were passing long balls to the strikers, Anil Gurung missed a sitter where they could have made it 2-0 but Lajong paid for their chances and just 8 minutes before the final whistle Chirag got a free kick and the Brazilian Edmilson Marques, calm and composed curled the ball to the corner of the post and beat the Lajong goal keeper.

Chirag now with six games without a win and Lajong can’t get those three points in which they desperately needed. They are just four points from the regulation zone, they will hope Mumbai FC lose to Viva Kerala and Churchill beat Salgaocar to book their place in the next season.

It was a disappointing result for both the teams. Lajong will be hoping for a win in the coming matches though it will be a tough task for Lajong as they have an away game with Viva Kerala. Then a home game with the league leaders Dempo.
