The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has launched a new women’s domestic league in the country with government-owned Caixa Econômica Federal bank as their commercial partners.
The league named Campeonato Brasileiro will run from September 18 to December 4 and will include the nation’s top-20 ranked women’s clubs.
“Eight years ago the CBF hosted the women’s Copa do Brasil, and the competition was truly nationwide. The tournament featured clubs from 26 states, and this league will be another competition for women’s football in Brazil,” said Brazilian Sports Minister Aldo Rebelo.
Even though the financial terms of the deal were not revealed, the deal is believed to be worth around US$4.4 million. The deal also revealed that the main aim of the league will be promoting professionalism in women’s football.
