After losing Robin Van Persie to Manchester United, Arsenal now has agreed a deal for Alexandre Song’s move to Barcelona.
The official website of the Arsenal Football Club has confirmed that terms have been agreed for the transfer of Alex Song to FC Barcelona. Song will now travel to the Catalan club to agree personal terms and undergo a medical ahead of the proposed move.
The 24-year-old Cameroon international was not included in today’s opening Premier League match against Sunderland that ended in a goal less draw.
Song, who has two years left to run on his contract, joined Arsenal on a loan from the French side Bastia as a 17 year old and has been one of the longest serving player under Arsene Wenger. He initially joined on a one-year loan deal, with a £2.75m fee agreed to make the move permanent.
Song has made more than 200 appearances for Arsenal, including 34 in the Premier League last season. Song will be the fifth player to move to the Catalan side following the steps of Theirry Henry, Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Alexander Hleb and Cesc Fabregas.
FC Barcelona also confirmed the deal on their website and official twitter account.
Their official Twitter account read: “FC Barcelona has agreed a deal with Arsenal FC for the transfer of Alex Song to the Camp Nou.
“Song will sign for the next five seasons with a release clause of €80 million. On Monday he’ll have a medical and then join the rest of the squad for the official team presentation at the Gamper.”
