The Merseyside club has started making all the necessary changes to challenge for the Champions League spot next season. Liverpool already being aggressive in the transfer market with the signing of James Milner, Danny Ings, Roberto Firmino, Adam Bodgan and Joe Gomez.
With world class talents like Carlos Bacca and Nathaniel Clyne also closely linked with the Merseysiders they are ready to make a point in the upcoming season.
One of the problems for Brendan Rodgers will be naming the skipper for his team which is ready to deliver the results. Of course, it going to be big responsibility for anyone who inherits the band from the legendary Steven Gerrard.
Jordan Henderson has already shown the personality to be the captain, however, the new arrival James Milner may also tempt Brendan Rodgers. Henderson, though inexperienced, has shown the glimpses of being a leader in the absence of Steven Gerrard, he created and scored crucial goals last season.
The team and fans have received him well as the captain. He himself has expressed desire to take on extra responsibility.
In the past. he has said: “I have always wanted to take more responsibility, especially at the stage of my career I am at. I feel like I'm getting a bit older now. I'm a bit more mature and I want to take more responsibility for the team.”
James Milner, a versatile player, has already won a Premier League title with Manchester City. Having played for England 54 times, a reliable set piece taker and someone who has ability to command the midfield with his subtle passes and attacking instincts. He will be the most experienced player at Liverpool next season.
Milner will be someone who the new arrivals will look up to. We should not rule out the probability that the Liverpool’s new no.7 can be named the captain for an inexperienced side.
As Carragher said “The fact that Brendan Rodgers wouldn't confirm Jordan Henderson as this season’s captain makes me think him and Milner could be competing for the armband!”
