Brendan Rodgers has said that adding ‘depth’ to his Liverpool team is at the top of his priority as he weighs in the recruits arriving in the immediate future.

Brendan Rodgers wants to add depth to his side.

The Liverpool manager has made it clear that he wants to bring in players with solid talents that will provide the core strength to tactics during games.

Rodgers, who is not planning on signing a large number of players to Merseyside, admitted that an intense competition for places within the team is required if Liverpool has to get ahead in the championship or if they have to compete for top honors next term.

He has his eyes set on Kolo Toure, a seasoned defender with Arsenal and Man City, while Iago Aspas and Luis Alberto might be a couple of other expected arrivals.

He said: “You can flip it about, but we just need to build up the depth of the squad. I want people who might be disappointed because they’re not on the bench.”

“I don’t want a massive group. We want a tight group with a real core of 17 or 18 who feel they should always be playing and then supported by a few of our top young talents.”
