Liverpool manager Brendon Rodgers has said that he truly appreciated the pressure of heightened expectations placed on his club to get past the qualification stage for the Champions League in the upcoming season.
Rodgers replaced Kenny Dalglish who was sacked following the club’s unimpressive seventh place finish in 2011/12. He is currently imposed the task of revamping the team in time for a reappraisal of the club.
The former Swansea City manager is more than determined to lead his team to the Champions League. With Liverpool matches kicking off in August, Rodgers intends to make it to the top four.
“I think we can do but it will be a tough ask because as we improve other clubs will have masses more money to improve also. But I believe we have built a real good base this year. It’s not my job to look for excuses, I have to find the solutions to try and push us in there and I believe we won’t be too far away,” he said.
Fresh off completing the formalities involved in Iago Aspa’s £7 million transfer from Celtic Vigo, Rodgers is already on the lookout for more recruits that will strengthen his squad.
“We’ve been looking for an offensive player to give us a real threat on goal [Aspas] and another attacking midfield player. We definitely need to do that, especially if we’re going to put some young ones out on loan to gain experience,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Liverpool City Council has bought Everton’s training ground, Finch Farm, with the intention of reducing rental costs on the site.
“It’s a win-win for the club and council,” said major of Liverpool Joe Anderson. “We will get money from it and it frees up money for the club.”
The Merseyside was leasing the land in south Liverpool, but now it has been passed to the council in for a price of £12m.
