Brentford play host to Newcastle United in a Premier League game at the G-Tech Stadium this Saturday. Both of these teams are currently on 20 points, with Brentford sitting in ninth, one spot above 10th-placed Newcastle on goal difference.
With the constricted nature of the Premier League table right now, though, the winners of this one could move as high as fifth depending on other results.
So, who will come out on top this weekend?
Brentford vs Newcastle United Head-to-Head and Key Numbers
- Brentford's record against Newcastle since their promotion in 2021 has been remarkably poor. After drawing 3-3 with the Magpies in their first clash, they have lost their subsequent five meetings, most recently falling 2-4 at the G-Tech in May.
- Brentford are currently one of the most inconsistent sides in the Premier League. They've won six of their 14 matches, but have not recorded back-to-back wins once. Thomas Frank's side are coming into this game off the back of a 3-0 loss to Aston Villa, a result that snapped a three-game unbeaten streak.
- Newcastle have been just as inconsistent as Brentford in the current campaign, and have now not won a league match since November 10. However, they were impressive this week, drawing 3-3 with league leaders Liverpool at St. James' Park.
- Despite their patchy form, Brentford have been fantastic at home this season. The Bees are unbeaten at the G-Tech, winning six and drawing one of their games there. More importantly, they've also scored 22 of their 27 goals there.
- Newcastle's main problem this season has been with scoring goals. With just 17 scored thus far, they are the second-lowest scorers in the top half of the Premier League, with only Nottingham Forest, who have managed 16, producing fewer to date.
Brentford vs Newcastle Prediction
Brentford's huge swings in form this season make them a difficult team to predict, meaning you can basically discount their loss to Aston Villa already.
Against Newcastle, then, they'll enjoy the home advantage, something that has proven to be key for them all season. Few teams are as good at home as the Bees and few are capable of scoring as many goals.
With that said, Newcastle pushed Liverpool all the way this week, and appear to have put their own goalscoring issues behind them. Eddie Howe's team have a great record against Brentford, too, meaning they might come in with confidence.
Overall, then, it feels likely that both teams will score here, making for an exciting match. With how hard it is to pick a winner, the prediction is a score draw.
Prediction: Brentford 2-2 Newcastle United
