Brighton & Hove Albion play host to Manchester City at the AMEX in a key Premier League fixture this Saturday. Both of these sides are coming into this game on a run of defeats, and so both could do with a win here to turn their form around.
A win for Brighton could be enough to propel them into the top four, while Manchester City could move to the top of the table with a victory.
So who will come out on top on the South Coast this weekend?
Brighton & Hove Albion vs Manchester City Head-to-Head and Key Numbers
- Although Brighton have made a habit of bloodying the noses of the Premier League's bigger sides, they have not had much success against Manchester City in recent years. They are winless in their last six against Pep Guardiola's side, and the last time they beat them at the AMEX was in May 2021, after City had already been crowned champions.
- Brighton have lost their last two matches, and interestingly, both losses came against Liverpool. They were dumped out of the Carabao Cup by Arne Slot's side last week, and then suffered a defeat to them at Anfield, despite going into halftime 1-0 up.
- Manchester City, meanwhile, suffered a devastating defeat to Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League on Tuesday, going down 4-1. This defeat followed losses to Tottenham and Bournemouth, putting Pep Guardiola's side on their first run of three defeats in a row since 2018.
- Despite City's recent slump in form, Erling Haaland has once again gotten off to a flyer in the scoring charts. The Norwegian already has eleven goals, putting him three ahead of his nearest rival in the Golden Boot stakes.
- Brighton are still unbeaten at home this season in Premier League games, defeating Manchester United and Tottenham while drawing with Ipswich, Nottingham Forest and Wolves.
Brighton & Hove Albion vs Manchester City Prediction
Reigning Premier League champions Manchester City have an excellent record against Brighton and would usually be favored to win here. However, Pep Guardiola's side are on a woeful run of form right now and that throws things into flux.
Brighton haven't been on their best run in their own right, with their last win coming on October 19. However, the Seagulls are unbeaten at home, are highly dangerous on the counter, and will be ready to open up a depleted City defense if they're given the opportunity.
Despite this, Brighton's defense is not watertight by any means, as they have conceded the second-most goals in the top ten right now.
With that considered, it feels likely that this game will be an exciting one, with the result being a score draw.
Prediction: Brighton & Hove Albion 2-2 Manchester City
