Bundesliga: End Of Season Awards

The German Bundesliga is now a part of the elite group of countries which have four spots in the UEFA Champions League. The curtains came down last weekend on another breath-taking season. Bundesliga has provided a huge platform for youngsters, and it was they who made a huge statement this season.

1. Team Of The Season: Borussia Dortmund

Champions for the second successive year in a row, Dortmund are truly a potential European Powerhouse

" Borussia Dortmund ended the season with a 28 game unbeaten run"

After a rather dismal start and the loss of Mario Goetze, Dortmund had their work cut out. However, seven months later, Dortmund strung together an unprecedented 28 match unbeaten run, winning 24 of them. They beat early season favourites Bayern Munich twice and played some breathtaking attacking football. They took full advantage of Bayern’s involvement in Europe and ran away with a deserved title. Kagawa, Gundogan and top scorer Lewandowski were influential in the absence of Mario Goetze.

2. Player Of the Season: Klaas Jan Huntelaar

"Class" Jan Huntelaar

Since moving from AC Milan in the summer of 2010 and an average first season, Huntelaar took centre stage in a partnership which shook Germany. Huntelaar finished this season with a staggering tally of 29 goals in 32 games. He gains an extra edge over Gomez simply because he has played lesser games, scored more goals and created 8 assists. He has amassed 48 goals in Europe this season, the third highest after Messi and Ronaldo.

Other candidates include the omnipresent Mario Gomez, the superb Franck Ribery, multitalented Marco Reus and Dortmund’s goal machine Robert Lewandowski.

3. Young Player of The Season: Marco Reus

Marco Reus has been Bundesliga's best find this season

Borussia Monchengladbach’s latest find, after a rather dismal 2010-2011 season, was Marco Reus. His versatility at the age of 22 is amazing. He can play as a second striker, attacking midfielder and even at the wings. A prime candidate for player of the season, Reus remains the only player barring Franck Ribery, to have double figures in both goals and assists.

Other candidates include Lars Bender, Ilkay Gundogan, Shinji Kagawa and Andres Ter Stagen
