Mexican side Club Deportivo Guadalajara (commonly known as Chivas) have recently signed San Jose Earthquakes forward Cade Cowell. The 20-year-old is also the first MLS player to be signed by the MLS outfit, who are known for exclusively signing players with a Mexican lineage.
However, Cade Cowell’s ethnicity has a piece of Mexico in it. His mother, Amber Maldonado Cowell, is Mexican and used to excel at several sports at the high school level. Her son got his Mexican lineage from his mother and even got his Mexican passport before signing for Chivas.
Cowell’s contract details of his deal with Chivas revealed
Chivas have paid $4 million plus add-ons and a 20% sell-on clause for the San Jose Earthquakes forward. Therefore, if Chivas decide to sell Cade Cowell to another club in the future, San Jose Earthquakes will get a cut of the transfer fee. Cowell’s contract with Chivas will be in place till December 2025.
Cade Cowell was the ninth highest-paid player in the San Jose Earthquake’s team and was making upwards of $600,000 per year for the MLS side. Although details about Cowell’s Chivas contract aren’t transparent yet, it is expected that he is earning much more than his San Jose yearly wages.
