Cambodia host Malaysia at the Olympic Stadium in Phnom Penh on Sunday for the 2024 ASEAN Championship fixture in Group A. Two-time defending champions Thailand, along with Singapore and East Timor, make up the remaining sides in the group.

Ranked 180th in the world, the Angkor Warriors are one of the weakest teams in the world. However, their form in the last three months has improved, losing just once from four outings.

Ironically, that defeat came in their most recent outing, as Hong Kong beat them 3-0 in a friendly game in October. With no games to play last month, Cambodia has had over a month to prepare for the ASEAN Cup.

On the other hand, Malaysia will be looking to close out a busy year on a positive note. They played in the AFC Asian Cup earlier this year, but went out in the group stages after failing to win any of their three first-round matches.

The Malay Tigers competed in the second round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, once again flattering to deceive, before winning the 2024 Merdeka Tournament in September.

Since then, Tomohiro Katanosaka's side have played three friendly matches with mixed results. Overall, it's been a disappointing run in 2024 for the 132nd-ranked side, who come into the ASEAN Championship hoping to salvage some pride.

Of their last seven games, Malaysia have lost just once: a crushing 4-0 loss to New Zealand in a friendly in October.
