A recent report by Pisos.com who study the valuation and cost of stadiums in Spain has put Barcelona’s Camp Nou as the most ‘expensive’ stadium in the country. Real Madrid’s Bernabeu is second in valuation while Real Sociedad's Annetta stadium is ranked third.
The website have been researching the value of stadiums across Spain over the last two years. Surprisingly Real Sociedad’s stadium was the most expensive two years ago but have dropped two places, behind the giants of Spanish football.
The research is based on the land valuation and property demand of the stadium and its location. The Camp Nou’s area has the most expensive land compared to every other ground in Spain. Hence, it ranks top of the valuation charts.
The stadium though is not the biggest in terms of area. Atletico Madrid's Vincente Calderon, Getafe's Coliseum Alfonso Perez and Sevilla’s Sanchez Pizjuan rank as the biggest in terms of surface area which is about 7,350 square metres. Although only Atletico Madrid’s stadium makes it into the top 5 most expensive.
Barcelona’s land is worth around €172.5 million while Bernabeu is only €2 million short of their rivals valued at 170.3 million. The Anoeta which was the most expensive a couple of years back is now third, valued at around €163 million.
The least valued stadiums in Spain are Levante's Ciutat de Valencia worth around €40.4 million and Villarreal's El Madrigal whose value is €30.3 million. The reason for this being the lack of residential demand for these areas as compared to those grounds that are valued higher.
The Camp Nou is one of the largest stadiums in the world in terms of capacity and can hold just below 100,000 people. The stadium was built between 1954 and 1957 and officially opened in September of that same year.
It is ranked as the 11th largest stadium in the world and can hold at least 15,000 more than the Bernabeu.
Here are the top 5 Stadiums ranked according to their value:
