Rio de Janeiro - Botafogo coach Oswaldo de Oliveira was taken to hospital with chest pain following the team’s 1-0 loss to 10-man Gremio in the Campeonato Brasileiro Saturday.
The 62-year-old stayed the night at the Sao Jose hospital where he underwent a series of exams to determine the cause of the problem, Xinhua quoted a Botafogo spokesperson as saying.
Oliveira’s long-time friend Rene Simoes said the manager was recovering well.
Alex Telles struck the winner for Gremio in the 37th minute, just moments after striker Kleber was shown his second yellow card for a crude challenge on teenage defender Doria.
Botafogo’s fans showed their disappointment in the final minutes by jeering the team’s players, including former Dutch international midfielder Clarence Seedorf.
The defeat was Botafogo’s fourth in the past five league matches.
