Arsenal have hit form at exactly the right time and have won their last eight consecutive Premier League matches. In their latest victory – a 1-0 win over Burnley at Turf Moor – they showed their strength and control to win, despite not being at their thrilling best. Arsene Wenger has continued to dismiss any talk of a last-gasp push for Premier League glory, but they are starting to play themselves into contention and if results go their way in the next weeks, they will definitely stand a chance.
Meanwhile, they are 90 minutes away from the FA Cup final, and will hope that their experience can see them past Championship side Reading in the semi-finals We take a look at this Arsenal side, and discuss whether they can win both competitions this season.THEY ARE THE IN-FORM TEAM
Arsenal are the in-form team
On current form, Arsenal are the best team in the Premier League and can beat any of the other 19 teams in the division. They have won eight in a row, scoring 18 goals and conceding just five in the process. The Gunners are firing on all cylinders at the moment, and have lost just once in their last 12 matches in all competitions. With the likes of Olivier Giroud, Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez all playing at the top of their game, Arsenal will be tough to beat throughout the remainder of the campaign.
Chelsea still have a difficult fixture list
Jose Mourinho’s side still have some tricky fixtures to negotiate, and it would be foolish to claim that the title is already settled. The Blues face a rejuvenated Manchester United side, while also facing Brendan Rodgers’ Liverpool outfit at Stamford Bridge.
Arsenal welcome Chelsea to the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, 26th April, and the Gunners will know that anything but a victory will all but end their title hopes. In the meantime, Wenger will be praying that their old foes United can do them a favour and ensure that the Blues drop points next week.
Gunners have a ‘favourable’ draw in the FA Cup
Arsenal are looking to earn back-to-back FA Cup triumphs and have arguably been drawn against the weakest side remaining in the competition. Reading will give the Gunners a good game, but it is expected that Wenger’s side will be too strong and they have an excellent chance of going on to win the trophy at the end of May.
In the other semi-final, Liverpool face Tim Sherwood’s Aston Villa in an all-Premier League affair.
