The Red Devils get their first three points of the season 2012-13 with a hard-fought win over Fulham. Not to mention, the win was not at all as easy as what many fans might have expected. The end result at Old Trafford brought forth both cheerful and sad news. We got a glimpse of quality from the Man Utd no. 20 RVP, at the same time, we had to watch our no. 10 ‘Wazza’ on the ground while holding his leg in pain. Rooney will be sidelined for at least 4 weeks, and in those coming 4 weeks, United have to travel to St Mary’s stadium to play against Southampton and then a home fixture against Wigan Athletic later on.
Manchester United have to deal with the crisis in defense in the coming weeks. With their four regular defenders injured, United have suffered a major blow with Wayne Rooney out injured with a nasty gash on his right thigh. This means United’s striking options are limited to van Persie, Hernandez and Welbeck. Berbatov is on United’s transfer-out list and nobody foresees their latest signing Angelo Henriquez to win a place in the first team any time soon. That leaves all United fans wondering whether the marque signing, Robin Van Persie, will be able to lead the Red Devils to glory in the absence of Wayne Rooney.
It’s not an unusual expectation as Robin has already done it for Arsenal in the previous season and he is tremendously experienced. He showed his confidence in the last match and he can only raise his game from here. United desperately need him to fulfil his potential. This could be the rise of “Robin” in the absence of “Batman”. He can shut the mouths of many fans and critics who weren’t too keen on his move from London to Manchester. He can also pay tribute to all millions of United fans despite his dull debut. This is the time for van Persie to make a name for himself. The likes of Kagawa, Valencia and Young will play a vital role while RVP leads the attack till the return of the talisman, Wayne Rooney.
