PHILADELPHIA – JULY 18: Melvin Valladares #18 of Honduras contests the ball with Patrice Bernier #20 of Canada during their CONCACAF quarterfinal match at Lincoln Financial Field on July 18, 2009 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Ottawa, Oct 19 – Two days after Canada was eliminated from the 2014 World Cup CONCACAF qualifying zone, Stephen Hart has resigned as the head coach, the Canadian Soccer Association (CSA) said.

Victor Montagliani, president of the CSA, confirmed that Hart had quit Thursday, reports Xinhua.

Canada, who needed a tie or win to advance to next year’s six-nation finals in North and Central America and the Caribbean, lost 1-8 to Honduras Tuesday.

The seven-goal loss was its largest margin since an 0-8 defeat to Mexico in 1993.
