Spanish Primera Liga side Levante appointed Joaquin Caparros as their new coach today.

“Joaquin Caparros will manage Levante for the 2013-14 season in the Primera Liga after a deal was reached between the club and the coach,” said a statement on the club’s website on Sunday.

“The understanding binds both parties together for one season.”

Levante were looking for a new boss after Juan Ignacio Martinez didn’t renew his contract with the club at the end of the season after two phenomenally successful years in charge.

Martinez led the Valencian club into Europe for the first time in their history with a sixth placed finish in the 2011/12 season and they went onto reach the last-16 of the Europa League before being eliminated by Rubin Kazan.

Caparros meanwhile suffered a frustrating campaign as he was sacked by Mallorca in February with the Islanders in relegation trouble.

The 57-year-old has also had spells in charge of Athletic Bilbao, Deportivo la Coruna and Villarreal, but he is best known for building the foundation of the Sevilla side that went onto win two UEFA Cups in 2006 and 2007.
