Following Sunday’s triumph over Stoke City, Arsenal travel to face West Bromwich Albion in a midweek Capital One Cup match, later today. The Gunners, who stand right at the top of the table, have some major injury woes which could lead Arsene Wenger to field a much younger team that he would normally do.
West Brom, on the other hand, have been struggling to get their season running. But with a win over Sunderland in the weekend, Steve Clarke and his men will be aiming to continue where they left off.
Although Arsenal are buzzing with confidence and are at the top of the table, they will eventually have to face bigger opponents and could come down as the season progresses. Wenger’s main target has to be the League cup this season as it seems to be a realistic chance for them to pick up a trophy and present Mesut Ozil and other stars their first winners’ medals.
As far as the team news is concerned, expect a couple of youngsters alongside Thomas Vermaelen and Mikel Arteta to be fielded. Serge Gnabry who started the last game in the absence of Theo Walcott will likely retain his first team berth while the likes of Ozil and Ramsey are expected to be rested. Newly recruited goalkeeper Viviano might as well make his Arsenal debut today.
Here is a possible XI that Wenger might deploy tonight: Viviano; Monreal, Vermaelen, Mertesacker, Jenkinson; Arteta, Flamini; Miyaichi, Eisfeld, Gnabry; Bendtner
