Capital One Cup - West Brom vs Arsenal: Player Ratings - Arsenal

West Bromwich Albion v Arsenal - Capital One Cup

Per Mertesacker was the star for the Gunners on the night

It was probably one of the worst and boring display from Arsenal in recent times. But still, we should give some credit for the young Gunners who somehow managed to win against a strong West Brom side.

Player Ratings

Lukasz Fabianski – 7 – Made some series of good saves. Good game overall.

Carl Jenkinson – 7 – Balanced display from the Arsenal right back. Defended well against a tricky Sinclair and helped his team in attack too.

Per Mertesacker – 7.5 – The German is becoming the soul of this Arsenal defence. Another good game where he commanded the defence well.

Thomas Vermaelen – 7 – Still not at his best as he is coming back from a long term injury. But, full 120 mins will boost his confidence for sure.

Nacho Monreal – 7 – Scored the winning goal with a well placed penalty. Even though he was bit rusty in attack, he defended well throughout the game.

Hayden – 6 – Not bad for a debutant, but still a long way to go for the youngster. He got almost sent off with a stupid challenge in the first half.

Mikel Arteta – 6 – As usual tidy with his short passes, but failed to control the midfield battle. Substituted later on as he was injured.

Thomas Eisfeld – 6 – Opened the scoring with a decent goal. But other than that, it was an average performance from the German wonder kid.

Serge Gnabry – 5 – Flop of the game. Lost possession on many occasions, bad passing and a penalty miss too. Sums up his night.

Nicklas Bendtner – 6.5 – Did fine with holding up the play at front. Made an assist for Eisfeld’s goal too. But he is nowhere a threat in the goal scoring department. Missed an easy one on one in the second half.

Ryo Miyaichi – 5.5 – A frustrating performance. Showed some glimpses of his talent with few inverted runs, but too many misplaced passes that disrupted Arsenal’s gameplay.

SUBS

Chuba Akpom – 6.5 – Impressed instantly. Youngest player on the pitch but he showed lot more composure than many of the other Arsenal players in the game. Scored a confident penalty too.

Kristoffer Olsson – 6 – Started the game nervously but did a decent job as the game went on.

Hector Bellerin – 6 – Totally played out of position but managed the situation well.
