Danny Welbeck scored the only goal of the game as David Moyes' side did trouble but not so much as to bring Arsenal's goalkeeper into the game.
Overall, it was a pretty mundane game in this otherwise joyful holiday season. Here's how the players fared:
Arsenal
David Ospina - 6/10
Had nothing to do all game but get hit by Andy Carrol towards the end of the second half. Otherwise, was on point to give the crowd the chance to go 'Ooooooooo...'
Sead Kolasinac - 7/10
Recalled into the side having been out the last couple of games and did well to add some of that muscle into Arsenal's defence.
Rob Holding - 7.5/10
Seems to be comfortable with Calum Chambers at the back and proved again what a bright future he has with another superb display.
Calum Chambers - 7.5/10
Was unfazed by any challenge throughout the game and was seen marshalling the rest of the defence like a seasoned pro. Good prospect for the Gunners.
Mathieu Debuchy - 7.5/10
It's unbelievable how he wins his aerial duels despite his natural frame. He was at it again tonight and is becoming a vital player for Arsene Wenger in every non-Premier League fixture.
Joe Willock - 7.5/10
Rarely gave the ball away and used his long legs to protect it when needed. Was composed and assured and had a good game overall in the centre.
Mohamed Elneny - 6.5/10
Was involved a lot in the buildups to most of Arsenal's attacks but didn't quite see them through when needed. Needs a run of games to get back to his best.
Francis Coquelin - 8/10
Arsenal's best performer of the day. He's getting more and more confident on the ball and it showed with the way he was moving with his flicks and lobs. Had a 90.4% pass accuracy and created a chance. Top performance.
Danny Welbeck - 7.5/10
Barring shinning the ball into the net, Danny Welbeck did little to convince Wenger that he ought to be in the first team. His game seems overall one-dimensional at times.
Olivier Giroud - 6.5/10
Never quite worked out for him up top and went off injured clutching his hamstring. Perhaps, it's time.
Theo Walcott - 6.5/10
Still cannot believe he didn't score from that lovely Kolasinac cross in the first half. Far from his best and far from the first team.
Substitutes
Reiss Nelson - 7/10
Came on for the injured Giroud and added some flair to the match albeit a bit too late. Looks real confident on the ball and is another exciting talent.
Ben Sheaf - 6/10
Didn't have much time to settle into the game but the fact that he's coming on means Wenger sees something in this London-born kid.
Josh Dasilva - NA/10
Didn't play long enough to merit a rating.
West Ham United
Joe Hart - 6/10
Didn't have much to do all game but cleared when he had to and fouled when he had to. Conceded a sloppy goal but was otherwise good.
Arthur Masuaku - 7.5/10
West Ham's best player on the night. He's got pace, strength and a directness that scares oppositions and he showed Arsenal that tonight with his searing runs.
Angelo Ogbonna - 7/10
A transformed player under David Moyes and one West Ham very well need. He's big and reads the game well - keeping Arsenal at bay throughout.
James Collins - 6.5/10
Did a good job on Giroud all night but needed to be more alert for Welbeck's goal in the first half.
Winston Reid - 6.5/10
Back in the side after serving his suspension, Reid did well handling Welbeck and Giroud at times. The upcoming fixtures will help him settle back in into the side.
Aaron Cresswell - 6.5/10
Was asked to do a lot defensively and didn't go forward as much as he'd like. Slipped into midfield often and could've made more overlapping runs.
Domingos Quina - 6.5/10
The teenager didn't have the best of games often overrun by Arsenal's midfield but showed signs that he could have what it takes to help West Ham out in the middle.
Pedro Obiang - 6.5/10
Hardly ever noticed him even though he's supposed to have played in the centre of the field. Needs to up his game if he wants to stay on and keep his place.
Declan Rice - 7/10
A promising performance from the teenager and he read the game better than most of West Ham's other players. Went forward when he had to and defended well when he had to. Moyes couldn't have asked for more.
Andre Ayew - 6.5/10
Made 17 passes all game and that ought to tell you enough of the service he was getting tonight. Had to drop deep and when he did, lost his duels too often.
Javier Hernandez - 6.5/10
Nowhere near his best but given he's back from an injury lay-off, it's understandable.
Substitutes
Andy Carroll - 6.5/10
Didn't punish Arsenal like he usually does. Was kept quiet by Rob Holding but in truth was starved of good service into the box.
Diafra Sakho - 6/10
Honestly, don't remember him playing for 30 minutes or so. Didn't make a single pass and was dispossessed twice.
Marko Arnautovic - 6/10
Came on for the last five minutes and was asked to score and assist both the equaliser and the winner but unfortunately, did neither.
