Cardozo would be a sensational buy for Cardiff if they manage to pull it off

Cardiff city have registered their interest in Benfica’s hitman Oscar Cardozo. The Paraguayan international has been linked with a Premier League move for years now but his release clause of £51m had put off potential suitors. But a recent scuffle with manager Jorge Jesus following a loss against Guimaraes in the Portuguese Cup final might force the Portuguese club to sell the 30-year-old for a lesser price.

Cardiff manager Malky Mackay has expressed his desire to bring the striker to South Wales.

“I know all about the attributes of Cardozo. I know exactly how he plays.

“I think he would suit our game and would be interesting for us.” Malkay said about Cardozo.

The 30-year-old is also being targeted by Manchester City as their quest for a new striker continues. City refused to meet Napoli‘s £54m valuation for Edison Cavani and are now looking elsewhere.

Cardozo, along with Brazilian international Fred are City’s top targets to replace Carlos Tevez. Both the players have been in sensational form last season with Cardozo netting 16 times in 20 league starts for Benfica and Fred scoring 20 goals in 28 league games for Fluminense.
