All Cristiano Ronaldo fans will have to wait for few more days for the Portuguese star to eclipse Raul’s Champions League record of 71 goals. However, his boss, at Real Madrid Carlo Ancelotti believes that the 29-year-old is destined to go past the mark, sooner or later.
The Los Blancos did, however, beat Liverpool on Tuesday night at the Santiago Bernabeu with Karim Benzema scoring the winner in the 27th minute. The win also helped Madrid qualify to the round of 16.
He will break the record, sooner or later
The Italian manager, who helped Real Madrid secure an 10th European title earlier this year, said that Ronaldo was a bit unlucky to have not scored on the night.
"Cristiano tried to score many times, he combined well with others but was unlucky and the goalkeeper Simon Mignolet made some good saves.I'm sure that he will break the record, no problem. Was it anxiety? Well sooner or later he will break the record because this is the destiny of Cristiano." Ancelotti said.
High speed in play not needed always
When enquired about why his side lacked a bit of pace in their game last night, the former Chelsea boss said that he felt it wasn't necessary to play that sort of a game since his team was on top for most parts.
“We had the match under control so we didn't need a high pace.We tried to score the second goal and we had chances. The aim is to finish first now”. he said.
He also praised the efforts of Frenchmen Karim Benzema.
"Since I've been at Madrid, this is the best moment for Benzema. I really like what he brings to the team and how he works”. The 55-year-old added.
