Carlos Tevez and Manchester: A match made in HELL

Shantha

Carlos Tevez is on the brink of leaving Manchester City after his mid-match antics at Munich forced Roberto Mancini to deem the player to be incapable of representing city in the future. Despite bearing the brunt of his side’s 0-2 defeat against Bayern Munich, Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini was left red-faced after Argentinian striker Carlos Tevez refused to get involved in the match at the Allianz Arena in Munich. This comes as the latest twist in Tevez’s eventful stay at Manchester City in the past three years.

What exactly happened:

Manchester City were trailing 2-0 in their match against Bayern Munich after two first half goals from Gomez. All hell broke loose after 55 minutes as Nigel de Jong was introduced as a substitute for Edin Dzeko who argued with Mancini after coming out. This was followed by a heated discussion between Carlos Tevez and his fellow countryman Pablo Zabeleta. It is being reported that Tevez refused to get involved because of Mancini’s unfair treatment towards him, leaving him out in City’s fixture against Everton, last saturday. However, this isn’t the first time that Tevez has been in the spotlight for the wrong reasons. His departure from another Manchester club – Manchester United, raised eyebrows at that point of time.

Carlos Tevez and MANCHESTER United:

Manchester United literally pulled out Carlos Tevez from West Ham in 2007. Though Tevez had a contract till 2010, he wanted to move on to greener pastures. This led to a tug of war between Manchester United and West Ham United which led to the issue being taken to court. Later, there was an amicable settlement which enabled Tevez to feature for Manchester United. Tevez’s stay at the Old Trafford didn’t last for too long as he opted to leave in 2009. The reason cited by him was that he wasn’t presented with a permanent contract by Sir Alex. Although United agreed to meet the option fee of £25.5 million and offered Tevez a five-year contract that would have made him one of the club’s top earners, Tevez’s agents informed the club that he no longer wished to play for Manchester United. What was more shocking was the fact that Tevez joined United’s rivals Manchester City which caused a furore amongst the fans of the red devils, leading to satirical images of Tevez like this one:

Carlos Tevez and MANCHESTER City:

Tevez’s love affair with City too didn’t last long as he requested release midway through the second season at City. Once again he cited reasons such as contractual irregularities and personal issues to get his way out. However City didn’t budge to his demands and forced him to stay longer. Tevez was once again in the news during the 2011 summer transfer period and was linked with a move back to his alma mater – Corinthians and Italian giants Inter Milan. Neither of the two happened which increased Tevez’s frustration even more.

Carlos Tevez has been seeking his exit from Man City for about a year now but City manager Mancini has been adamant in not selling him until he gets the right price. It seems like Tevez would get what he wants come january as Mancini has stated at the post match press conference that Tevez would never play for City again. This is what Roberto Mancini had to say:

“If I have my way he will be out of the club. He’s finished with me. For me it’s a bad situation. In a game like this it’s important for a player to help the team. This is impossible. He refuses to go in. He refused to come on the pitch. What I said to Carlos is between me, him and the team. I am really disappointed because it is Carlos. We will speak about this with the chairman in the next few days. But if we want to improve as team Carlos can’t play with us. With me, he is finished. He refused to warm up and again refused to go on the pitch. If a player has a lot of money to play for Manchester City … he can’t play, never.”

Tevez would most likely be up for sale during the winter transfer window in January. But given his nature of losing interest in a club too soon, the teams which are eager to sign him will be wary of the possible future of the deal.

The Bottom Line:

He may be talented; He may be skillful; He may be a matchwinner; But Carlos Tevez has disappointed his fans and has become a disgrace to football through his antics. My only advice to the teams which would be queuing up to sign him in January – FOR GOD’S SAKE, SIGN HIM IN A LONG TERM CONTRACT !
