Real Sociedad and former Arsenal forward Carlos Vela could be heading back to the Emirates this summer after admitting that a flame still burns for the north London club.
The Mexico international has become one of the key players for the club from the Basque country since joining for £2.5m in 2012, scoring 40 goals in 104 appearances in La Liga.
According to the Daily Mail, this form has attracted interest from his former club and due to a buy-back clause in his contract, Vela could rejoin Arsenal for as little as £3.5m.
“Arsenal can come back for me at €4million (£3.3m) at any time, which is €1million more than Real Sociedad paid. I look at things differently these days and I won’t close the door on Arsenal, or any team in England. I think I’m better prepared to play in another country now.” said the 25-year-old.
Vela continued by saying that although he’s happy a La Rosaleda, he feels that he’s now at the level needed to be a success at a big club.
“I’ve always said that I’m very happy and settled here, but we’ll have to see if there’s an agreement reached or not.
“I’ve [got] good things there and here too. I’m in a place where I’m happy and at the moment, don’t have any intentions of moving on, but if the time comes to leave, I think I’m prepared to try other things.
“I’ve matured, I’ve changed my way of thinking and I’ve not closed my mind to anything.”
With Arsene Wenger feeling the pressure from Arsenal fans to sign a new striker in the summer, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him make a move for the La Liga star given his unwillingness to spend large amounts of money on a single player.
