Former Liverpool defender, Jamie Carragher, has launched a stinging attack on Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor, branding the striker a “disgrace” for not producing his best form every week.
The Sky Sports pundit said that Adebayor has the ability to be one of the best strikers in the world, but fails to produce. He continued by suggesting that criticism of former Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas for not playing the striker was unwarranted, citing the calibre of the managers who have also tried and failed to get the Togo striker consistently firing.
So far this season the controversial forward has scored twice in the Premier League, and boasts a 100% shot accuracy record.
“Today and yesterday at the game we seem to be having an Adebayor love-in. He did play well, but lets not get carried away,” said Carragher.
“For me, a player like him should be one of the best strikers in the world. Why isn’t he? He’s got everything. He can play up front on his own, he can play with a partner.”
“We can criticise AVB for putting him in the reserves but Wenger got rid of him, Mancini got rid of him, AVB tried to get rid of him. I’m sure Sherwood or the new manager who comes in will try and get rid of him.”
“ So let’s not get too carried away by Adebayor. For me, a player like that is a disgrace. He can play like that with that ability, but why isn’t he doing it every week? He should be like Didier Drogba.”
“He comes in for a few games and everybody says how great he is [and that] AVB should have played him a bit more, but why doesn’t he produce it every week.”
