Casemiro believes Barcelona's Sergio Busquets is currently the best defensive midfielder in the world

Busquets
Busquets is the heartbeat of Barca

Casemiro has added much-needed steel in the middle of the park for Real Madrid ever since nailing down a regular first team spot. But the Brazilian is currently out with an injury which has given Zinedine Zidane an unnecessary headache.

The Real Madrid hardman spoke about his favourite for the Ballon d’Or this year, as well as the best player in his position. He was very honest in his answer and made no hesitation in naming his opposite number Sergio Busquets as the best defensive midfielder currently.

The player spoke to Onda Cera, about his love of Madrid and of course Busquets as well. He said, “The best players in my position are [Sergio] Busquets, Thiago [Alcantara], Gabi, Xabi Alonso, Busquets is a great player, how he plays the ball, his positioning, his balance on the pitch.”

Busquets has been at the heart of that Barca midfield for years now and is still only 28 years of age. He recently signed a new deal with the club extending his stay even further with the Catalans.

Casemiro in many ways is the type of player Madrid have lacked since the departure of Xabi Alonso. Toni Kroos has done a decent job until now but he’s not the perfect holding player.

Zidane will be very waiting impatiently for the return of his Brazilian star. With recent result not going his way, Casemiro might at least help in plugging the defensive holes in this Madrid team. But going forward is a whole other issue for the manager.

‘Ronaldo will win the Ballon d’Or’

Casemiro was very sure in his answer when he gave his choice for this year’s Ballon d’Or winner and that choice was Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese international had a very productive 2015/16 season scoring tons of goals and also winning the UEFA Champions League but most importantly the UEFA Euro 2016 championship.

Casemiro praised Neymar but said he has has a long way to go.“Neymar's career, there is still more to come But all the football that Cristiano Ronaldo has done over the last 10 years is to remember for a lifetime. Neymar has everything to get it.”

Ronaldo hasn’t had the best of starts to the season. He did not play the first few games due to injury but now it feels like his form is back after scoring 4 goals during Portugal's World Cup Qualifiers.

Madrid fans will hope he can show the same energy during their next La Liga game this weekend.
