Atletico Madrid forward Diego Costa has made a very impressive start to the new La Liga season. His goals powered Atletico to the top of the table until their 1-0 reverse against Espanyol this weekend, which was their first dropped points of the season.
And Costa has been on a tear staking a claim to be considered amongst the best strikers in Europe. Costa is Brazilian, but has opted to play for Spain instead and the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) are reportedly going to take up the case with FIFA’s Dispute Resolution Chamber.
The Brazilians are seemingly not too happy that Costa has opted to play for Spain instead of Brazil.
Costa has never played for Brazil in a competitive game, he has played a friendly for them. The CBF need to submit a certificate to their Spanish counterparts stating that Costa never turned out for Brazil in a competitive game and then FIFA’s Player Status Committee, grants them permission to play for Spain.
The CBF though is merely exercising the rights as it can take it up with FIFA’s Dispute Resolution Chamber. If the appeal is lodged then the player would not be allowed to turn out for either nation in a FIFA organized tournament.
