Jose Mourinho, who is widely speculated to leave Real Madrid this season with a move to former club Chelsea, is “more than welcome” at the Bridge according to Chelsea shot stopper Petr Cech.
Mourinho, who led Chelsea to the Premier League title in his first two seasons in charge, walked out on the club following the report of a bust-up between him and Billionaire Russian owner Roman Abramovich.
The Portuguese is however most likely to replace Rafa Benitez next season, and goalkeeper Cech said: “With Jose Mourinho we had great success in the past and people still have great memories and admiration for him.
“If he comes back, the story will be interesting for everyone. He will be more than welcome.”
Cech’s immediate focus however is on guiding Chelsea to Europa League glory against Benfica on Wednesday night and the goalkeeper is looking to compensate for their early Champions League exit.
“Winning back-to-back European trophies, it would be a great story, with more or less the same circumstances, having to change the manager during the course of the season again. Hopefully it will be the same end,” he said.
“We were very disappointed with our campaign in the Champions League. We said the best way to forget about it was to have a go and try to go as far as possible in the Europa League.
“It would be great to add that trophy to the trophy room. We need to get over the last hurdle. I have a great feeling.”
Cech also paid rich tributes to interim manager Rafael Benitez, who was given a torrid reception from Chelsea fans after he was appointed following the sacking of Roberto Di Matteo.
“It was not easy for him, with the reception he got,” Cech added. “But he came here to help and to improve the situation for us and to do as best as possible. That is what we did, what he did, what the coaching staff did.
“This is maybe the reason why it’s worked so far and we’re in the Europa League final.”
